Latin Club
‘Minimus' is the title of the Latin text book we use in Latin Club. It is part of the Primary Latin Project, which aims to promote the learning of Latin in Primary schools. It is now being used across the world, including in America and two years ago was even translated for use in Italy. The course is designed to complement the National Curriculum Literacy strategies for Key stage 2 and is open to new members in years 3 upwards. Learning Latin has been shown to help children to develop their thinking and analytical skills and can therefore be of help in their approach to other subjects. Not only has Latin influenced many European languages; French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian and Czech, but it also gives us nearly three-quarters of our own English words. The learning of Latin is of immense benefit to our learning of English, both in spelling and grammar.
