Pottery Club

Pottery was one of the first after school activities and has been running for several years. Many children in the school have had the opportunity to attend and learn the basics of hand building and modelling. Children are able to work with both conventional clay and ‘new clay’ that does not need firing as part of their Art curriculum. Pottery club was started to give those children who are particularly interested in the subject the opportunity to further their skills and make and glaze their own pottery.

The club is open to children from year 4 to year 8. Whatever the age or ability we always start by making a thumb pot as this is the basis for much of the subsequent work. The children then learn to join and decorate clay. Every year some of the children make a Nativity set. Other things we make include fish, birds, mice, vases, dragons, snowmen and hedgehogs. Pottery club is always a popular activity and so we often run two groups to accommodate as many children as possible.
