Industry (effort) marks
All pupils in Years 5-8 receive an industry score for effort on a scale from 1-5 for each subject, on a bi-weekly basis. The industry scores for each pupil are added together and also to create a form total. The Form groups compete every fortnight for the Form Industry Certificate awarded in assembly by the Headmaster. Each pupil's individual scores for the term are added together and the highest for both boy and girl in each Form is awarded with a certificate. The three highest ranked pupils in each year receive a prize in the end of term assembly. Industry marks assist the form and subject teachers to assess how much effort a pupil is putting into their work and provide an invaluable source of communication between school and home.
Merits and Credits
Children receive a pink ‘Merit' slip for a piece of work in which they have tried hard. Where they demonstrate exemplary behaviour, or show particular thoughtfulness towards others, they receive an orange token which they deposit in their house container. Not only do the boys and girls take pride in monitoring their own totals of merits, but they can also see the effect of their contribution to their house totals.
Debits
For poor behaviour a child may receive a debit. This is a negative point and it is communicated to the pupil's Form Teacher and the Senior Master or Mistress. Working together, and with parents' involvement if necessary, lapses in behaviour or work ethic are addressed and remedied constructively.
