At Chesham Prep we understand that mathematics is a tool for life and we strive to instil in our students a love of problem solving and the beauty of numbers. We have excellent resources to help us do this and we make good use of our interactive whiteboards and ICT facilities. We strongly encourage our students to learn their times tables and also try to help them develop strategies to solve more difficult calculations. CPS students have access to the excellent
Mathletics website which has proved to be extremely popular.
Our students often enter local mathematics competitions at other schools, the UK Primary Maths Challenge and we also run a fortnightly puzzle competition for anyone to enter. In year 7 and 8 we prepare the students for their Common Entrance examinations as well as covering the National Curriculum. From Reception to year 6 our main resource is the Abacus Evolve scheme which gives us good continuity throughout the school.
All in all, we want the children to enjoy their mathematics and gain a sense of achievement and satisfaction from it at whatever level they are working.
