Chesham Preparatory School is an IAPS, mixed-ability, co-educational day Prep School for 390 children aged 3 – 13. Class size is capped at 20. There is a two-form entry at Reception and in Year 3 we admit a third class intake, increasing our year group to 60. Across the school there is approximately a 55:45 balance of boys to girls. There is no Saturday school.
Some children leave at 11+ to enter the local selective Grammar Schools, others transfer to local Independent Schools and a third stay on to transfer at 13+.
The School is run along family lines, and is the only school of its type in the area, being independent, co-ed, day, 3 – 13 and not a Junior School. The School is most attractive to those parents who seek a school that their children can attend together.
The School is non-selective, although there is an assessment and screening process before entry, at Year 3 and Year 7, therefore mixed ability by nature. Chesham Preparatory School provides a broad and balanced curriculum to prepare children for Common Entrance, Scholarships, and transfer via schools' own entrance procedures.
Chesham Preparatory School is a very happy school and its greatest strength is the children.
