CPS is an IAPS, mixed-ability, co-educational day Prep School for 390 children aged 4 – 13. Class size is capped at 20. There is a two-form entry at Reception and in Year 3 we admit a third class intake, increasing our year group to 60. Across the school there is approximately a 55:45 balance of boys to girls. There is no Saturday school.
Some children leave at 11+ to enter the local selective Grammar Schools, others transfer to local Independent Schools and a third stay on to transfer at 13+.
The School was founded in 1938 and Mr Marjoribanks, the current Headmaster, who was appointed in 2001, is only the third Head.
The School is run along family lines, and is the only school of its type in the area, being independent, co-ed, day, 4 – 13 and not a Junior School. The School is most attractive to those parents who seek a school that their children can attend together.
The School is non-selective, although there is an assessment and screening process before entry, at Year 3 and Year 7, therefore mixed ability by nature. CPS provides a broad and balanced curriculum to prepare children for Common Entrance, Scholarships, and transfer via schools' own entrance procedures.
CPS is a very happy school and its greatest strength is the children.
