Entering School at Year 3
After Reception the next formal point of entry is into Year 3 at age 7+. A further form is added to create three forms within each year group, numbering 60 children in total. The new pupils are integrated with the existing 40 pupils to create three new forms. Careful consideration is given to try to ensure that the classes are of equal ability, that they reflect a fair balance of gender and the new intake and allow for existing friendships.
Entry to Year 3 is subject to a successful assessment day when pupils will sit tests just to ensure that they will be able to cope with the academic expectations made of pupils at CPS. We are in essence a non-selective school yet each year a small number of children do not meet our entry requirements. This is regrettable but essential if we are to avoid a child being out of its depth academically.
