Curriculum Overview

The curriculum at CPS is built around the National Curriculum. All lessons are taught by teachers who specialize in their field, from Early Years through to Key Stage 3 and Common Entrance.

Curriculum Homework

Homework (or Prep) is designed to support a child’s learning not to extend it.  Parents should not expect copious amounts of homework to be set each night.

Examinations

Children do not sit formal exams before Year 5 (age 9) when children sit relatively short exam papers (tests) in all main academic subjects.

External Examinations

In Year 6 some children sit the Buckinghamshire Grammar School selection tests at 11+ and a significant number sits the 12+ equivalent in Year 7.  Children also sit selection tests for many of the local independent schools or sit the Public Schools’ Common Entrance Examination.

Testing

Above and beyond the annual exam timetable, there is additional diagnostic and standardised testing from Year 3.

Setting

Whilst CPS is essentially a mixed-ability school, we do feel it appropriate to introduce a degree of setting by ability for certain subjects.
