Year 2 have a bubbly good time!
On Tuesday morning parents were invited to a thirty minute session run by Miss Spinney on the Gymnastics skills taught in lower school. This demonstrated the 4 skill areas of;
· Balances
· Rolls
· Jumps
· Weight on Hands.
Demonstrations were given to show the ways in which balance could be used to encourage literacy and numeracy within enjoyable homework tasks. Pencil, side tuck, teddy bear, paired teddy bear and forward rolls were performed by the pupils along with straight, star and tuck jumps. Parents were shown how the exercises can be used at home.
The final section of the session was on weight on hands, talking about bunny hops and playing fun leap frog games in the garden. Year 1 and 2 pupils should be encouraged to do handstands at home - with adult supervision of course! We also explained the starting technique for the cartwheel.
We hope that parents enjoyed the session and have taken away a few ideas of how they can work alongside school to develop their child’s ability.
