Learning Support

The Governors and staff ensure that every child admitted to the school receives the best possible education to enable them to achieve their potential. All children are given equal opportunities taking into account their individual needs which might involve a difficulty which calls for some sort of special educational provision or intervention.

The Learning Support Department helps children to achieve personal targets on their Individual Education Plans which are reviewed twice a year. The department consists of three specially equipped rooms and resource centre.

Children are given individual lessons or group lessons (depending on their areas of need) by qualified special needs teachers. Some children receive 'in class support' from learning support assistants. We can also arrange access to a Speech Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a handwriting expert and several Educational Psychologists.

All children are different and some have needs which require a differentiated curriculum. At Chesham Preparatory School we have children who receive a variety of specialist help.

The Learning Support Department has regular Open Days and holds seminars for staff and parents. There is a Special Needs policy which was written in response to The Code of Practice 2001.
