While parents and other carers at home are the main source of support, it is also imperative that the support and education provided in pre-school settings is of a high quality. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a framework to deliver consistent and high quality environments for all children in pre-school settings, recognising the importance of this period in a child’s life’.
At Chesham Preparatory School, children begin following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum from their earliest years. Children join the school in the term after their third birthday and can attend either mornings only or full time. Early Years children are fully prepared for the Reception class when they are five years old.
Nursery children enjoy learning, through play, in a colourful and stimulating environment. Important building blocks are put in place for learning important skills. Comunication skills are fostered and the foundations are set for a good understanding of numeracy and literacy.
Children follow a full and varied programme to enhance their interest, knowledge and understanding of the world. They have plenty of opportunities for creative and physical development. Children are taught important social skills that will last them a life-time.
Dame Clare Tickell
Independent Chair of the EYFS review says ……
‘The earliest years in a child’s life are absolutely critical, providing the essential foundations for healthy development. Children’s attainment, wellbeing, happiness and resilience are profoundly affected by the quality of the guidance, love and care they receive during the first years of their lives.
