Learning Through Play

We have an excellent team of specialist teachers who are committed and passionate about education in Early Years. Our bright, spacious facilities and outdoor learning area make learning and teaching enjoyable for everyone.

Teaching is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and activities cater for the individual needs of the child.  The ‘Six Areas of Learning’ is the focus of achievement in the early years and forms the basis of our Foundation Stage Curriculum.

At Chesham Preparatory School, we provide ‘an outstanding start to formal schooling’ (IAPS Inspection Report 2010).

Through their excellent knowledge of each individual child and careful observation, nursery teachers provide challenging activities for every child. Full use is made of the school accommodation, including the sports hall and ICT suite.

Relevant resources and some specialist teaching add to the breadth of opportunity for children in Early Years. There is a balance between adult-led and child-initiated activities, with opportunities given for choosing, experimenting and discovering. The attractive outdoor area is well used to support all six areas of the curriculum.

Staff and older pupils provide excellent role models for the children. Key people identify and monitor individual needs with additional support and given when necessary. The children’s welfare is strongly promoted. Staffing arrangements provide good, caring supervision at all times.
