Although we were only part of the Chesham Prep family for a short period (Years 7&8), we will always be grateful for the impact it had on our son’s life.
Year 7 Entry (11+)
There are many reasons that children join Chesham Prep in Year 7. Sometimes they have narrowly missed out on the 11+, despite being very able they may not be quite ready in terms of maturity or they have a blip on the exam day. Some families are not happy with their secondary school allocation and feel that their child would struggle in a very large school. Joining for our two year course helps to boost their confidence and prepares them for a move after Year 8. Please note that Years 7 & 8 are usually just boys.
Years 7 & 8 provide two years of intensive academic rigour, teaching in small classes of 18 to give more individual attention resulting in excellent progress and achievement. Our teachers get to know the children very well through regular assessments, identifying and targeting areas where they need support in preparation for 12+ and 13+ tests. We communicate very closely with parents on their child’s progress and have strong pastoral care to boost confidence and social development. We offer advice and support in moving to senior schools after Year 8 and have a strong track record for pupils gaining places at their first choice of school at Year 9, including Berkhamsted School. We help to prepare the children for exams and hold interview practice to help with this next stage.
In Years 7 & 8 our children take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities and trips including a 2 day Team Building residential when they join, and Year 7 spend 5 days in Newquay learning to surf, and Year 8 learn to sail in 5 days in Hampshire. They are given more responsibility and have the chance to become Head Boy or Head Girl, Prefects and House Captains. They play in the senior sports fixtures and also perform in the Summer Term musical, many being cast in the lead roles.
We have some spaces available in Year 7 for September 2021. Please contact the Sue Johnson, the Registrar for more information on 01494 782619 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
