Nursery

Chesham Prep’s Nursery offers a series of warm, happy and stimulating environments where the educational focus is on structured play but includes first steps in reading, writing, numeracy and ICT.

Our high staff to pupil ratio (1 Nursery teacher and 3 nursery assistants) ensures that learning is enjoyable and firmly rooted so that the children are well prepared for entry into the reception classes.

Children split their time between being inside in our bright welcoming classrooms as well playing outside in the EYFS playground and the Forest School Area – our vibrant outdoor classroom. This is a vital aspect of children’s time in Nursery building and reinforces many skills important to all Chesham Prep children:

• Risk-Taking and Resilience: We foster a safe, supportive environment where children are encouraged to try new things, manage their own challenges, and build confidence through adventurous activities
• Team Working and Collaboration: From planning group projects to working together on building shelters
• Active Dialogue: Hands-on, sensory experiences spark curiosity and provide natural talking points, significantly developing children’s vocabulary and communication skills
• Appreciating our Natural World: Children learn about growing their own food by tending to our fruit trees and celebrating the seasons changing around us

Children can attend Nursery for either mornings only, or for a full day. They are also eligible for wraparound care. Minimum attendance of either 3 mornings or 2 full days is required.
